NBNPHA Welcomes New Executive Director

The New Brunswick Non-Profit Housing Association (NBNPHA) is pleased to announce the hiring of George Cormier for the position of Executive Director.

George comes to the Association after having held Executive Director roles with long term care and affordable housing organizations in rural New Brunswick for the past 5 years. Born and raised in Memramcook, NB, he currently holds a seat there as a municipal councillor and is engaged in initiatives involving seniors and the age friendly community.

His previous experience in government and community organizations positions him well to serve the Association and its 200 member housing groups across the province, and George will split his time between three areas of the province. George is a former Board Member of the Francophone Special Care Home Association, and has served for a number of years as the Moncton Region Director of the NBNPHA. George currently sits on the Provincial Roundtable responsible for advising the department of social development on the new Aging Strategy.

In addition to his extensive background in the housing sector, George holds an MBA and is a candidate for the Chartered Professional in Human Resources designation. Through an innovative contract with Healthy Aging and Housing Transitions Canada Ltd., the NBNPHA not only secures George as ED, but substantially increases its capacity for information technology projects and fundraising.

“Speaking on behalf of our Board of Directors, I am very pleased that George will be leading the Association through this exciting period in affordable housing. The new National Housing Strategy and upcoming provincial housing strategy will create new opportunities for growth for the capacity of the Association and for our members. George’s extensive experience and knowledge of the sector and leadership will help us

continue to grow the Association and meet the complex needs of our members”, said Kit Hickey, President. “George brings with him excellent working relationships with key government departments and will help lead the Association through our new Strategic Plan.

George will take up his post in Fredericton March 1, and is looking forward to working with staff and stakeholders to further enhance the provision of affordable housing for New Brunswickers in need.
